Awakening
Eden.

Awakening Eden is our land practice: soil regeneration, food forests, syntropic agroforestry, water-retention landscapes, organic farming, tree planting and biodiversity. No buildings, no floorplans — only the living ground and everything that grows from it.

Cela vous semble familier ?

Si le travail de la terre vous semble plus difficile qu'il ne devrait l'être, vous n'êtes pas seul.

Most land we walk has been loved without a plan. These are the signs we see most often — and the place where real regeneration begins.

  • The land looks beautiful in spring, but by August the wells are low and the soil is cracking.
  • You planted trees with hope, then watched most of them die before the first summer ended.
  • Everyone talks about regenerative farming, but no one can show you what's actually growing.
  • There is no one on the land who knows how to read the water, the soil, or the seasons.

Ce qu'il est possible de faire avec la terre

Nine layers of living work — every one of them in the ground.

Soil regeneration

Baseline testing, compost and biology, mulch and cover crops, mineral balancing — a multi-year path from extraction to accumulation.

Water-retention landscapes

Swales, ponds, keyline patterns, catchment and greywater — holding every drop in the land instead of losing it downhill.

Food forests

Layered edible ecosystems — canopy, understory, shrub, herb, root and vine — designed to feed people and wildlife for decades.

Syntropic agroforestry

Dense succession planting with strong pruning rhythms, turning bare or tired ground into accumulating biomass fast.

Organic farming & market gardens

Beds, rotations, seed saving, nursery and harvest calendars — abundant gardens that actually get harvested and eaten.

Large-scale tree planting

Species selection by climate and altitude, fire resilience, windbreaks, riparian planting, and survival-rate aftercare.

Biodiversity & habitat

Pollinator corridors, hedgerows, wetland edges, dead wood, bird and bat habitat — inviting the whole web back in.

Animals & living systems

Where grazing, poultry, bees or fish genuinely serve the land — integrated, welfare-first, and honest about labour.

Ecosystem restoration

Erosion repair, degraded pasture recovery, invasive management, and bioregional partnerships beyond your fence line.

La régénération rendue concrète

La régénération n'est pas une fuite de la réalité. C'est une autre manière d'y participer.

  • Growing food.
  • Restoring soil.
  • Protecting water.
  • Planting trees.
  • Protecting biodiversity.
  • Teaching useful skills.
  • Supporting local people.
  • Learning together.
  • Trying again.

Inner and outer regeneration are not separate movements. We can plant thousands of trees while carrying the same tired patterns underneath them — so the planting plan and the people plan are designed together.

Tout ensemble

Humans, nature, technology and the unseen — held in one loving relationship.

This is Sumbea's promise. Technology should not be hurting us. We choose low-EMF systems, thoughtful placement, and tools that are respected like beings — in service of life, never dominating it. People are not separate from the land, and the land is not separate from the unseen world beneath, around and within it.

Humans

People first — with care, craft, ceremony and honest conversation. Land work is relationship work, and relationship begins with listening.

Nature

Soil, water, plants, animals, weather and the whole living world as partners, not resources to extract. We design with living systems.

Technology

Tools that serve life without dominating it. Low-EMF systems, thoughtful placement, and technology respected like a being — never allowed to harm the people or place it was meant to support.

Unseen beings

The microorganisms, mycorrhizal networks, ancestral presence, elemental forces and more-than-human intelligences that shape every thriving landscape. We work with humility toward what we cannot fully name.

All ways are considered. We are not in the know of all things. We simply continue to deepen our understanding of our inner and outer worlds — and let the land teach us what beauty wants to emerge.

Ce que vous pouvez commander

Quelques réalisations que nous aimons concrétiser.

A wooden deck overlooking a lush green valley at sunrise, evoking a natural pool setting
Bio pool

A living swimming pool filtered by plants, not chlorine. Cool water, dragonflies, and a quiet place to sink into the land.

A productive farm garden with rows of vegetables, flowers and people caring for animals
Garden set up

Raised beds, market gardens, and kitchen gardens designed for your climate, crew, and appetite — ready to plant and harvest.

A village nestled into a green valley, showing integrated land planning
PDC permaculture plan

A full Permaculture Design Certificate-level master plan: zones, sectors, water, soil, and a phased implementation map.

Food forests

Layered edible ecosystems — canopy to root — that feed people and wildlife for generations with minimal intervention.

Rich dark soil held in two hands, showing healthy living earth
General maintenance

Seasonal stewardship, pruning, mulching, and care rhythms that keep the land thriving year after year.

A sunlit Portuguese valley with olive groves and a hill village in the distance
Beautify the land

Ecological beauty: native borders, pollinator corridors, hedgerows, and framed views that feel alive rather than manicured.

These are not package tours — they are land commissions, shaped to your ground, your water, your people and your season.

Ateliers sur le terrain

Apprenez les mains dans la terre.

Workshops held by the Awakening Eden team, designed around your land, your season and your people. Intuitive planting, permaculture, water and soil — and much more.

A quiet sanctuary garden with soft light and green planting
Intuitive planting

A hands-on day of reading the land, trusting your senses, and placing plants where they actually want to grow — soil, slope, sun and instinct together.

A traditional Portuguese schist village nestled into green hills
Permaculture foundations

Core patterns, zones, sectors and ethics applied to your place. A practical introduction for crews, families and land stewards who want to think like an ecosystem.

A circle of people gathered outdoors on the land
Water & soil literacy

Follow water across the land, test soil with simple tools, and learn how catchment, mulch and biology turn dryness into resilience.

Food forest in a weekend

Design and plant a starter food forest in two days — canopy to root, guilds, support species and a maintenance rhythm you can continue.

Rich dark soil held in two hands, showing healthy living earth
Seasonal land care

Pruning, mulching, composting and observation rounds timed to the year. For people who want the land to keep thriving long after the workshop ends.

A productive farm garden with rows of vegetables and flowers
And much more

Seed saving, nursery skills, syntropic pruning, animal integration, wild edibles and craft days. We design each workshop around your land and your people.

Workshops can stand alone or follow a consult — a way for your crew to absorb the design by doing it together.

Comment s'effectue la gestion

L'eau d'abord. Puis le sol. Puis tout ce qui est vert.

  1. 01

    Read the land

We walk it slowly — soil pits, water lines, wind, sun, existing species, and what the neighbours know about this valley.

  2. 02

    Baseline & test

Soil biology and chemistry, water availability and quality, habitat inventory. Measured, not assumed.

  3. 03

    Design the succession

Water first, then soil, then planting — mapped in layers and phased across seasons and years.

  4. 04

    Plant & steward

Planting plans, nursery lists, pruning rhythms, seasonal calendars and roles handed to your crew, with yearly markers.

  • Soil, water, planting, farming, forestry, biodiversity, stewardship.
  • Field-scale regeneration, food systems, and land-based education.

Questions

Avant de réserver.

Is this about buildings or housing?
No. This practice is land only — soil, water, plants, animals, food and ecosystems. Buildings and site layout live in our architecture practice.
Do you do the physical earthworks and planting?
We design the strategy, planting plans and pruning regimes, then brief and supervise local contractors, nurseries and permaculture practitioners who execute it.
Combien de temps avant de voir des résultats ?
Water infrastructure pays off in the first dry season. Syntropic beds visibly close canopy in one to two seasons. Soil carbon is a three-to-five-year arc, with markers each year.
Can we start before we own land?
Yes — we assess candidate parcels for water, soil and aspect so you don't buy ground that can't grow what you're dreaming of.
Does this feed certification?
Yes. It maps directly onto Green Apple Certification standards for soil, water, food and biodiversity.

Présentez-nous le terrain. Nous vous dirons ce que l'eau, le sol et les saisons permettent d'y réaliser.
