A blog post about holistic centers.

By Jared · Founder, Sumbea

It's true — I've been to over 850 holistic centers all over the world.

To be honest, there's probably 50 people in the world that know this.

And well, to be honest, I feel that I have a lot to say about holistic centers.

So, here's my first try at sharing it with more people.

Living in holistic centers or community-rich environments — full of mostly healthy things to consume and do — well, there's no other way really. I truly love it.

Every so often I get the itch to not be around these places, but so far, every time I go to one, I just remember. I remember something within myself. And usually, it's almost always wonderfully amazing.

Living away from these environments is usually designed for us to be without what we really love — so that we can enjoy them more when we return. 🙂

Otherwise, DON'T LEAVE. 🙂

Six lessons

What I learned. What did I find to be the best places? Where did I want to stay the longest?

01

Everything happens for a reason.

It's the most classic. And the best one. Your grandpa probably told you already.

02

Don't give up.

My middle name is Chance. Take more chances. I still haven't gotten my dream — but I'll never stop taking risks. It's in my DNA.

03

Listen to your body.

The heart isn't the priority. Love isn't the priority. You are. Health is number one. I lived from the heart only for four years and it made me sicker. Start with your body.

04

Smile sweetly.

The best meditation in the world. Do it while working, while meditating, when someone screams at you. Smile sweetly.

05

Everything is possible.

Every single outcome can happen. Has happened. Will keep happening. If there is an idea, it is possible. That is all.

06

Anything can happen.

No matter how spiritual, advanced, or god-touched you feel — tomorrow can bring something you never knew you wanted. Dreams change in an instant.

So far these are my main learnings. They're quite valuable. Maybe I'll tattoo them all over my body. Maybe I already did.

Places

Where did I find the best places?

There are great places to be in the world. But they're hard to come by — that's the reality. Many places I once loved are now very difficult to live in due to high levels of toxicity. But some of them are still incredible in other ways.

  • Bali

The most toxic environment on earth, and arguably the most fun and incredible place to be.

  • Findhorn, Scotland

Still one of the deepest fields I've ever walked into.

  • Portugal — everywhere

The whole country is quietly holding the next chapter.

  • Tulum, Mexico

Wild, loud, and full of teachers if you're patient.

  • Costa Rica — community

The jungle keeps rearranging what you thought stewardship meant.

  • De Uilenspiegel, Netherlands

A living room of a community. Rare.

  • California — PCH coast

    Home coastline. Still a benchmark.

If you ever hear that there's a good place to live — let us know. We'd love to come stay for a bit. 🙂
